Wray Common Primary School

A primary school for boys and girls aged 4 to 11

Team Around the Child

At Wray Common Primary School we aim to support each individual child to academically, socially and emotionally thrive. We believe in a child-centred approach and seek every opportunity to work in partnership with children and their families, to ensure their success.

To support each child and ensure our understanding of their individual circumstances and needs, we adopt a Team Around the Child approach which enables us to individualise the support we provide for each child as much as possible. This all begins with children’s Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants who work with and support the children on a daily basis. Adults build relationships with the children they work with to establish trust and respect. As a result, children feel confident to talk to the adults in school if anything is worrying them.

Children are encouraged to talk about their feelings, using their understanding of The Zones of Regulation© so that the majority of their worries or concerns can be supported by the adults who work with them in their classroom on a daily basis. If you are concerned about your child’s wellbeing or there is an issue at home which you think will affect their wellbeing at school, please let their Class Teacher know.

Should children and or their families require further support some of the following adults may become part of the Team Around the Child.

Mr Durston is our Team Around the Child Champion (TACC) and our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA).

In his role as TACC, Mr Durston works with individual children and parents in a range of ways. He will check in with children who need particular support from time-to-time, and support parents to access the support they need. If you need support, please contact Mr Durston by emailing: familysupport@wray-common.surrey.sch.uk

As an ELSA, Mr Durston works on a one-to-one or small group basis with children on a weekly basis. If we believe that your child may benefit from this type of support, Miss Kober (Inclusion Lead) or Mr Durston will make contact to discuss this with you.

Miss Kober is our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). You can find out more about how we safeguard children at Wray Common Primary School here.

Miss Kober meets regularly with Mr Durston and Class Teachers to consider all of the children who require further support as part of our Team Around the Child approach. Our DSL Team also meet weekly to consider the pastoral needs of all children, to collaboratively decide how to best support children and their families, either within school or through referral to outside agencies. Miss Kober works closely with families to ensure that support is right for them. If you have a concern or would like to speak to Miss Kober about support for your family, please email: dsl@wray-common.surrey.sch.uk
